“帝国唱片”是一家小型独立唱片店，现在面临着被唱片零售业寡头Music City收购的危险。经理Joe和以Corey为首的全体员工自然一百个不愿意，当务之急是筹到足够的钱把唱片店买下来。其中好心的Lucas偷走了Joe的积蓄——9000美元——到大西洋城（美国著名赌场）里碰运气，谁知道一把输得精光。众人只得各出其招在一天内筹够钱，在此过程中他们内部也发生了一些有趣的小故事，还有那个让人又爱又恨的过气歌手Rex，使他们对自己和同事有了更深的认识……
