日本战国时代，一个满目荒凉穷山恶水的山村里，每年麦收的时候，都会遭到强盗的袭击。这一年，村民们决定雇佣七名武士来保卫他们的村庄和收成，七名武士分别是勘兵卫、久藏、胜四郎、五郎、七郎、平八和冒充为武士的农民菊千代。武士勘兵卫是个步伐矫健、作战经验丰富的人，他负责指挥全村人进行防御准备。在突袭强盗老巢的行动中，武士久藏和菊千代杀死数名强盗，但武士平八为救农民利吉中弹身亡。武士和村民们手握铁锹、竹矛死守村庄，巧妙击退了强盗的一次次进攻，但在抵抗中片山五郎兵卫战死。决战之日，13名强盗骑马冲入村庄，格斗中，强盗用火铳击中了久藏。菊千代怀着愤怒和仇恨杀死了最后一个敌人，自己也因中弹倒地而亡。强盗终于被尽数歼灭，但村民们也付出了很大代价，七名武士最终阵亡四名，留下坟冢上四把武士刀刺入天穹。大战过后，武士们离开村落，武士中的首脑人物勘兵卫不禁感叹：“这也是场败仗……赢的并不是武士，而是农民。”

经历了动荡的明治维新，日本迎来新的时代。在明治政府第十个年头，不祥的气息弥漫东京。恶德实业家武田观柳（香川照之 饰）操纵女医师高荷惠（苍井优 饰）研制新型鸦片，公开招揽落魄武夫，大肆收购周边土地，有条不紊地实现他的狼子野心。在此期间，以刽子手拔刀斋之名滥杀无辜的鹈堂刃卫（吉川晃司 饰）引起了前新選组头目斋藤一（江口洋介 饰）的注意，也迫令隐姓埋名多年的拔刀斋本尊绯村剑心（佐藤健 饰）登场。寄居在神谷道场的绯村渐渐融入神谷薫（武井咲 饰）和周边庶民的平和生活之中。然而武田欲壑难平，为了保护善良的人，剑心不得不拔出逆刃刀和相乐佐之助（青木崇高 饰）勇闯虎穴。本片根据漫画家和月伸宏的经典原作改编。

电影系列里最可怕的敌人雪代缘在本片现身。他对东京发动大规模攻击，意在报复剑心。参与《神剑闯江湖》前几部电影的王牌演员阵容再度聚首，替剑心扛下这最后一战，同时迈向崭新的终极高峰：《The Final》。

进入了明治时代，曾经的“刽子手拔刀斋”绯村剑心已经习惯了神谷道场的安宁生活。谁知就在这一天，倒幕战争时的旧友——号称维新三杰之一的大久保利通将其请去。原来继承了剑心刽子手身份的志志雄真实当年被新政府背叛，侥幸活下来的志志雄正秘密筹措称霸日本的可怕计划。大久保死后，深感背负不可推卸责任的剑心只身上路，在途中不仅偶遇京都女忍卷町操，还在新月村和志志雄有了第一次的遭遇。与此同时，相乐左之助、神谷薫、明神弥彦、斋藤一也相继赶往京都。阴云密布的时代，酝酿着一场席卷全国的风暴。

　　外表落魄邋遢的浪人武士三十郎（三船敏郎 饰）来到一个小镇，清兵卫（河津清三郎 饰）和新田丑寅（山茶花究 饰）两家恶霸在那里为争夺地盘，招兵买马经常争斗，弄得民不聊生。三十郎决定从中设计，引诱双方雇佣自己，再加入不同方造成两边拼斗，由此坐收渔利，消灭对方。 但随着丑寅弟弟卯之助（仲代达矢 饰）的加入，情况又发生了不同，他手里握有短枪，占得优势，清兵卫的势力被打败，三十郎甚至也受伤不轻。但是决战在所难免，椿三十郎独对丑寅、亥之吉等众人，身处劣势的他如何能剿灭对方呢？

宽永七年德川幕府第三代将军家光时，当时由于实施中央集权，削弱了许多诸侯大名的权力，曾经叱咤一时的武士阶级很多失业沦为浪人。残酷的现实使得无所事事的浪人经常跑到诸侯家，表示要切腹自杀，而势力被削弱无力招揽更多浪人的诸侯只得用钱打发他们走，于是这成为当时流行的敲诈手段。一天井伊家来了一位名叫千千岩求女的浪人，他也提出相同要求，家臣决定将计就计，让他切腹，结果千千岩求女在极度痛苦中咬舌死去。几个月以后又有一名叫津云半四郎（仲代达矢饰）的老浪人前来要求借井伊家宝地切腹自杀。其原因也是不堪生活的困苦，井伊家老（三国连太郎饰）出面。在切腹之前，津云要求讲下自己这辈子的故事……

为了救神谷薰（武井咲 饰），绯村剑心（佐藤健 饰）纵身跃入大海，昏迷中他飘到某座小岛，最终为传授了他飞天御剑流的师父比古清十郎（福山雅治 饰）所救。深感到自身与志志雄真实（藤原龙也 饰）的巨大差距，为了拯救全日本，剑心恳请师傅传授他飞天御剑流的最高奥义。与此同时，志志雄剑指东京，迈出武力夺国的下一步。他强迫伊藤博文（小泽征悦 饰）对刽子手拔刀斋发布全国通缉令，得知消息的薰、左之助（青木崇高 饰）则匆匆向东京赶去。再度上路的剑心率先遭到御庭番众的首领四乃森苍紫（伊势谷友介 饰）的阻击，他一路披荆斩棘，将迎来与宿命的对手志志雄最终的对决……

　　已是江户时代后期，时有明石藩江户之家老间宫图书（内野聖陽 饰）在幕府老中土井大炊头（平幹二朗 饰）的宅前自杀，此举引起朝野震动。一切皆由明石藩主齐昭（稲垣吾郎 饰）而起。齐昭系现任将军的异母弟弟，其人嗜血如命、暴虐无常，引起朝廷上下诸多人等的不满，然齐昭已内定成为下任老中。为免苍生遭其荼毒，土井授意岛田新作卫门（役所広司 饰）在齐昭回藩途中予以刺杀。新左卫门召集了仓永左平太（松方弘樹 饰）、三桥军次郎（沢村一樹 饰）、平山九十郎（伊原剛志 饰）等13名刺客，在齐昭的必经之地布下层层埋伏…… 　　本片翻拍自工藤荣一1963年同名经典名作，新版剧本由著名导演今村昌平之子天愿大介担任，该片荣获2010年日本电影旬报十佳影片第4名。

In Japan in the year 1600, at the dawn of a century-defining civil war, Lord Yoshii Toranaga is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.

Set in the 18th century, the show follows the Shogun Yoshimune, who likes to disguise himself as a low-ranking samurai and go into his capital of Edo to see the life of the common man, as well as to seek out and punish evildoers who would hurt his citizens. He is aided by Magistrate Oo'oka and a vivacious fireman, Tatsugoro, as well as a rotating cast of other recurring characters. Along with Zenigata Heiji and Mito Kōmon, it ranks among the longest-running series in the jidaigeki genre. Like so many other jidaigeki, it falls in the category of kanzen-chōaku, loosely, "rewarding good and punishing evil."

Takechiyo lost his father during a war. He grew up lonely and away from his mother. Takechiyo didn't have a clue about what his future would hold. He then has a dramatic meeting with the young Oda Nobunaga.

Ryōmaden is the 49th NHK Taiga drama. It was shown on NHK from January 3 to November 28, 2010 spanning 48 episodes. The story centers on the life of 19th-century Japanese historical figures Iwasaki Yatarō and Sakamoto Ryōma. It has been announced that the series will be aired in several other countries, for example Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

Fūrin Kazan was the 46th NHK Taiga drama beginning on January 7, 2007. It was aired throughout 2007. The four characters from left to right are wind, woods, fire, and mountain. The title is a reference to the war banner used by Takeda Shingen, which in turn was taken from Sun Tzu's The Art of War. It means "Swift as the Wind, Silent as a Forest, Fierce as Fire and Immovable as a Mountain."

Yae no Sakura is a 2013 Japanese television series. It is the 52nd NHK taiga drama. The story focuses on Niijima Yae, who is portrayed by Haruka Ayase.

The chronicles of the life of Minamoto no Yoshitsune (1159 - May 17th, 1189). He was a late Heian and early Kamakura general of the Minamoto clan of Japan. Yoshitsune was the ninth son of Minamoto no Yoshitomo. His older brother Minamoto no Yoritomo founded the Kamakura shogunate.

Yoshitsune is a Japanese television drama series originally broadcast between 9 January and 11 December 2005, with a three-part special compilation being aired from 24 December to 25 December 2005. The 44th Taiga Drama, the original work is by Miyao Tomiko, screenplay by Kaneko Narito and starring Hideaki Takizawa.

Saigo Takamori, the hero of the Meiji Restoration, was born to a poor, low-ranking samurai family in the Satsuma domain (present day Kagoshima Prefecture). His simple honesty caught the attention of its charismatic feudal lord of Satsuma, Shimazu Nariakira. Nariakira’s assertion that the love of people is what will enrich and strengthen the nation captivated Saigo who took on Nariakira’s secret mission and eventually became a key person for Satsuma. Not a portrait of him survives today and much of his life is a mystery. He is a man who was twice exiled and thrice married. He overthrew the Tokugawa Shogunate with exceptional bravery and action. Although he accomplished the restoration, he lost his life in a fight with the new Meiji government.

Villain or hero, Taira no Kiyomori changed Japanese history forever 900 years ago. Without ever knowing his real father, Kiyomori was raised as a samurai. Together with his stepfather, he wiped out piracy along Japan's western coast, becoming a full-fledged warrior samurai. In an age when samurai were looked down on as members of the lower class, Kiyomori was skillful at winning the hearts and minds of the people. By rounding up surrendered pirates and achieving other successes, Kiyomori eventually became the de facto ruler of Japan.

The 47th NHK Taiga Drama is a life story of Princess Atsu, who was born in Kagoshima Prefecture, then called Satsuma, and became the wife of Tokugawa Iesada, the 13th shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate. She accedes to the highest rank in Ooku, the inner palace of the Edo castle where women related to the reigning shogun resided. Iesada dies soon after their marriage and Atsuhime assumes the name Tenshoin at the age of 23. She exerts herself for the Tokugawa clan and for the nation during the upheaval in the Meiji Restoration, headed by those from Satsuma.

During the Kyoho period in the reign of Tokugawa Yoshimune, there is a gang of thieves active not just in Edo but also the Tokaido and the Nakasendo, and all across the Kansai region, stealing large sums of money with skillful techniques. They only target the very wealthy and never kill or injure people. They appear with the clouds and disappear like the mist. On the night that the beautiful Ochiyo is to become the bride of a dry goods dealer, a large amount of money hidden inside the shop is stolen. The gang disappears without injuring anyone. It was a two-year plan to marry Ochiyo off so that she could bring them in. The leader of this gang is Kumokiri Nizaemon, the greatest bandit of all time. He keeps a rein on his highly-skilled and notorious followers Nanabake no Ochiyo, Kinezumi no Kichigoro, Subashiri no Kumagoro, Ingakozo Rokunosuke and others.

His bravery as well as stratagem catches the attention of Saito Toshimasa, the chief retainer of the Toki clan, and he is singled out. This man who is also known as Saito Dosan will go on to takeover the Toki and make Mino his own.

A shikakenin was an under-the-cover trade that undertook killing in Edo. Hanemon of Otowa, an agency that introduced laborers and maids, was also one of these. Katsugoro Iseya was a timber dealer who had come in as a client. His target was the constructions magistrate Hanno, and the Tatsumiya who sipped on the benefits. Hanemon who had a stong code towards killing, where he would only kill those who do no good to be in the world, accepts this request. Baian Fujieda, a needle doctor would carry out the killing. However, the professional killer Baian fails to bring down Tatsumiya. Hanemon then looks to another shikakenin, the ronin Sanai Nishimura for the role. Although Sanai's ability with the sword is good, he lives poorly in a tenement, and accepts this commission on the condition that it is kept a secret from his wife and child. Here, they close in on Hanno and Tatsumiya again...
