Woody allens underbara komedi var hans första film med Diane Keaton, en relation som så småningom skulle ge dem båda Oscars ("Annie Hall"). Allen spelar Allen, en fanatisk filmfantast med en fantastisk återkommande hallucination: att Humphrey Bogar ger tips om hur man ska nå framgång bland damerna. Hans vänner Dick och Lina, som är gifta, ordnar så att han får möta flera unga singlar, men han har så dåligt självförtroende att han misslyckas katastrofalt med alltihop. Så småningom upptäcker Allen att det finns en kvinna som han kan vara sig själv med: Linda, hans bäste väns fru. Slutscenen är en fantastisk efterhärmning av "Casablancas" klassiska slut, komplett med bullrande flygplanspropellrar, tjock dimma och trenchcoats av Bogart-snitt.
