Невоља је у томе што је отац млађи од њега и њему самом су многе ствари забрањене (пародија на филм “Боyз Н тхе Хоод”, у којем Лоренс Фишберн глуми оца Куби Гудингу, а старији је само 7 година од њега). Ештреј ће морати да обавља и неке кућне послове – слагање фигурица из киндер јаја, као и да повремено шиша Ћалета (и косу и “љубавни тепих”).
Главни лик у филму је млади белгијски репер Џими Ребит Смит (Еминем), који живи у парк приколици у Ворену, Мичиген и покушава да започне каријеру у хип-хопу, музичком жанру у којем доминирају Афроамериканци. Филм је добио назив по аутопуту чије је дужина 8 миља и који се простире дуж границе округа Бејн и Детроита где претежно живе Афроамериканци, односно округа Оукланд и округа Макон где претежно живе белци.
