Живот Ип Ман остаје непромењен након смрти његове супруге, али он и син полако се разилазе. У потрази за бољом будућношћу свог сина, Ип Ман одлучује да отпутује у САД само како би пронашао стабилан, миран живот у иностранству. Испод се крије дубока укорењена расна дискриминација која је пуно гора него што је очекивао. Ип Ман преиспитује свој положај и размишља о разлогу који је у почетку преузео борилачке вештине.

The story is based on the historic martial art legend Hung Hei-gun (Donnie Yen) in the Qing dynasty. In the final stand Hung Hei-gun and Fong Sai-yuk (Nick Cheung) fight their way to defend the Shaolin Monastery against the invading army of the Qianlong emperor who was trying to get rid of oppositions. Qianlong was also afraid to reveal that he was not a true manchu.

Kung fu has a long history in China, with many different schools, such as Wudang, Shaolin, Wing Chun, etc. Each episode of this RTHK documentary series interviews a grandmaster of different style, where they demonstrate actual combat and discuss the nature of their martial art.
