Po jednej fuške v Londýne sú nájomní zabijaci Ray a Ken poverení svojim drsným šéfom Harrym, aby sa schovali v Brugách. Kým Ken si užíva pokojné prostredie a pamiatky, ukecaný a akčný Ray je malebným mestom viac ako znechutený. A tak sa rozhodne vymyslieť si dobrodružstvo. Netrvá dlho a Ray sa potuluje spolu s turistami, začne si s miestnou kráskou Chloe, mláti jej priateľa – skinheada a zabáva sa s americkým trpaslíkom, ktorý tu nakrúca surrealistický film. Dovolenka sa však skomplikuje, keď Ray zistí, že Harry ho chce mŕtveho a Ken má túto prácičku vykonať...

Skutočný príbeh Gerryho Conlona, bezvýznamného zlodeja žijúceho v znepriatelenom Belfaste 70. rokov minulého storočia. Keď sa Gerry znepriatelí s IRA, jeho otec ho radšej pošle do Anglicka. Ani tam sa však Gerry nechová ako svätec a jedného dňa sa kvôli svojim kúskom ocitne na nesprávnom mieste v nesprávnom čase. Nevinný, ale pod nátlakom donútený priznať sa k účasti na krvavom bombovom útoku sa ocitá vo väzení s doživotným trestom ako jeden z "guildfordskej štvorky". V spolupráci so svojím neúnavným a ambicióznym advokátom sa Gerry púšťa do boja, aby dokázal svoju nevinu, očistil meno svojho otca a odhalil pravdu o jednom z najhanebnejších procesov v dejinách.

Policajt z malého mestečka Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) má konfliktný charakter, zvrátený zmysel pre humor, umierajúci matku, záľubu v prostitútkach a, hlavne, ho vôbec nezaujíma medzinárodný obchod s kokaínom, kvôli ktorému mu jedného dňa na dvere klope agent FBI Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle).

Martin Sixmith (Steve Coogan) je bývalý zahraničný korešpondent BBC, ktorý prišiel o prácu. Náhodou sa mu do rúk dostane materiál, z ktorého by spracovať životnú reportáž. Jeho klientkou sa stáva staršia svojrázna írska dáma Philomena Lee. Otehotnela ako mladučká dievčina a porodila syna Anthonyho. Aby ho mohla vídavať aspoň hodinu denne, žila a pracovala v kláštore pre „padlé ženy“. Keď mal Anthony 3 roky, bol Philomene násilím odobraný, a poslaný na adopciu do Ameriky. Philomena strávila 50 rokov márnym hľadaním svojho dieťaťa. Philomena a Martin sa spoločne vydávajú na neobyčajný výlet. Philomena je úprimná, bezprostredná pani, ktorá berie ľudí takých, akí sú. Napriek životným strastiam si stále zachováva optimizmus a vieru. Naproti tomu je Martin svetaznalý vzdelaný muž, ktorý je zvyknutý na spoločnosť významných a bohatých ľudí. Strata milovanej novinárskej práce v politických sférach z neho urobila cynika.

Film je adaptáciou rovnomenného autobiografického románu Franka McCourta, v ktorom spomína na svoje ťažké detstvo strávené v chudobných štvrtiach írskeho Limericku. Vydanie románu sprevádzal v USA menší škandál, keďže autorova rodina sa od neho dištancovala a spochybnila pravdivosť McCourtových spomienok. Samotný film sa pomerne presne drží knižnej predlohy, ale miestami pôsobí trochu chladnejšie. Príbeh sa odohráva prevažne v Limericku, kde Frank vyrastá s matkou Angelou a otcom Malachym, ktorého sklon k alkoholizmu ochudobňuje celú rodinu. Frank prichádza o niekoľko súrodencov zo svojej početnej rodiny a postupne vidí jediné východisko v tom, že sa presťahuje do Ameriky. Matka Angela znáša svoj osud trpezlivo a pre svojho potomka je ochotná urobiť takmer čokoľvek. Film zaujme naturalistickým zobrazením súčasného života v chudobnom a daždivom Limericku. Film získal Cenu divákov na 35. MFF Karlove Vary 2000.

Ros na Rún is a long-running Irish soap opera produced for the Irish language television channel, TG4. It was originally broadcast on RTÉ One in the early 1990s before the existence of TG4. It now broadcasts for 35 weeks of the year, airing 2 episodes each week from September to May. The programme is set in a fictional village called Ros Na Rún, located outside Galway, and near Spiddal, and centres around the domestic and professional lives of its residents. It is modelled on an average village in the West of Ireland but with its own distinct personality – diverse population that share secrets, romances, friendships etc. While the core community has remained the same, the look and feel of Ros Na Rún has changed and evolved over the years to incorporate the changing face of rural Ireland.
