Počas prvého roka nemeckej okupácie Francúzska sa Shosanna Dreyfus stane svedkyňou popravy vlastnej rodiny rukou nacistického plukovníka Hansa Landa. Bez váhania sa vydá na útek a uchýli sa v Paríži, kde získa novú identitu ako majiteľka a zároveň aj prevádzkovateľka kina. V rovnakom čase ale na inom mieste v Európe poručík Aldo Raine zostavuje skupinu amerických židovských vojakov za cieľom okamžitej a prekvapivej odplaty, neskôr v nepriateľských líniách známej ako "the basterds".
