Câinele Gromit intră în acțiune pentru a-și salva stăpânul atunci când invenția high-tech a lui Wallace se strică, iar acestuia i se înscenează o serie de crime ciudate.

Leul Alex, Zebra Marty, Hipopotămița Gloria și girafa Melman încă se luptă să-și găsească drumul înapoi spre casă, în iubitul lor New York, însoțiți, desigur, de Regele Julien și de Maurice și Pinguinii. Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, regele Julien, Maurice, pinguinii și maimuțele s-au întors și sunt încă naufragiați în Madagascar. Motiv suficient pentru ca fulgerul Cody Maverick să ducă următoarea cea mai bună balenă din Antarctica în Pacificul de Sud, unde își propune să ia titlul de la concurentul aparent copleșitor Tank, după ce se pare că idolul său Big Z a murit în ultima competiție. Dar la fața locului, Cody trebuie să-și dea seama că este ceva mai mult decât dorința de a-și asuma riscuri și că are nevoie cu siguranță de noii săi prieteni Lani, salvamarul și nebunul Chicken Joe...

La fel ca tatăl său, micul pinguin imperial Erik se străduiește mereu să-și descopere talentul. Din nefericire, Erik e total nepriceput la coregrafie și nu poate prinde pașii de dans. Rușinat, micul pinguin fuge de acasă și astfel îl cunoaște pe Marele Sven, un pinguin care poate să zboare! Între timp, pericole neașteptate îi amenință pe toți pinguinii, iar pentru a se salva se pare că trebuie să se unească cu toate creaturile din Antarctica și să... danseze.

A pilot episode, "Gone in a Flash", aired as part of "Superstuffed Nicktoons Weekend" on November 29, 2008, and The Penguins of Madagascar became a regular series on March 28, 2009. The series premiere drew 6.1 million viewers, setting a new record as the most-watched premiere. Although the series occasionally alludes to the rest of the franchise, The Penguins of Madagascar does not take place at a precise time within it. McGrath, who is also the co-creator of the film characters, has said that the series takes place "not specifically before or after the movie, I just wanted them all back at the zoo. I think of it as taking place in a parallel universe."
