Cu două milenii în urmă, Moana, o navigatoare înnăscută, pornește în căutarea unei insule legendare din Oceania. Călătoria i-l va scoate în cale pe semizeul Maui, care o va ajuta să traverseze oceanul dezlănțuit, într-o extraordinară aventură plină de experiențe neobișnuite. Miza este și ea ieșită din comun: ceea ce găsește pe insulă ar putea-o ajuta pe Moana să-și salveze familia.
După ce și-a pierdut soția în urmă cu șapte ani, excentricul dr. John Dolittle, un veterinar extrem de îndrăgit din Anglia victoriană, se izolează în spatele porților conacului său, singura companie fiindu-i o menajerie de animale exotice. Dar, când tânăra regină Victoria se îmbolnăvește grav, Dolittle pornește cu mari ezitări într-o călătorie plină de aventuri către o insulă mitică pentru a căuta leacul care o va vindeca pe regină, regăsindu-și pe drum curajul, și trezindu-și la viață istețimea legendară, pe măsură ce va fi nevoit să-și croiască drum printre creaturi nemaivăzute ochiului uman. În călătoria sa, doctorul va fi însoțit de un tânăr autoproclamat învățăcel, dar și de o gorilă fricoasă, o gâscă entuziastă, dar nu prea isteață, un struț cinic și un urs polar exagerat de energic, precum și de un papagal extrem de încăpățânat.
