Vi befinner oss på Nordre Tvilsheim Hønsegård (Tweedy´s Egg Farm) hvor den høna som ikke bidrar med egg til frokostbordet risikerer å ende opp som dagens hønsefrikassé. Men Inger (Ginger) og resten av hønseflokken er fast bestemt på å unnslippe før de blir ribbet og stekt. Tiden er i ferd med å renne ut. Den grådige eieren av gården, fru Tvilsheim (Mrs. Tweedy) finner en ny måte å skyte gullfuglen på: Ved å bruke hønene til hønsepai. Men nå, med hjelp fra "den ensomme rytter" Rocky, klekker Inger (Ginger) og de andre hønene en plan for hvordan de skal komme seg ut av hønsehuset.....FLUKTEN FRA HØNSEGÅRDEN er i gang.
