Når Mei og Satsuki flytter på landet møter de Totoro, skogens vokter. Plutselig blir hverdagen fylt av magiske eventyr sammen med den svære skogsguden! En vakker vårdag kommer en tungt lastet bil kjørende gjennom et fredelig og fargesterkt landskap. I bilen sitter ti år gamle Satsuki, den fireårige lillesøstera hennes, Mei, og faren deres. For de to søstrene er dette starten på et spennende eventyr, og de legger ikke skjul på at de håper det gamle huset de skal flytte inn i er hjemsøkt.

Den lille elefanten Dumbo er født med noen aldeles for store ører, og når han kommer til sirkuset for første gang blir han gjort narr av.
