På slutten av 1200-tallet vender William Wallace hjem til Skottland etter å ha bodd borte fra hjemlandet i flere år. Han ønsker å slå seg ned med sin kjæreste Murron, og leve fredelig av landet sammen med sin familie. Dessverre kommer det ting i veien for freden. Kongen av Skottland er død uten å ha en arving, og kongen av England, den hensynsløse Edward 1., har overtatt tronen. Wallace blir leder for en lurvete gjeng av motfylte menn som vil jage engelskmennene bort fra deres territorium. Wallaces mot og ærgjerrighet samler folket til kamp. I et historisk slag ved Stirling vinner Wallaces hær over engelskmennene, og etter å ha blitt adlet av skotske adelsmenne, leder Wallace sin hær over grensen og sørover mot byen York.

Den dyktige bueskytteren Merida er den impulsive datteren til kong Fergus og dronning Elinor. Fast bestemt på å gå sine egne veier i livet, trosser Merida en eldgammel skikk som er hellig for de høyrøstede landsherrene: Digre Lord MacGuffin, gretne Lord Macintosh og den kranglevorne Lord Dingwall. Smeltende polarkapsler gir for mye vann til verdenshavene, og forstyrrer havstrømmene som regulerer klimasystemet. Den globale oppvarmingen har gått så langt at den forårsaker en ny istid. Og alt vil bryte sammen i løpet av en eneste global superstorm.

In June 2010 it was announced that High Times would be one of the STV archive programmes to be made available on YouTube on the STV Player channel.
