Staten smeller jernneven i bordet og griper inn i et forsøk på å få bukt med rebelske og voldelige skoleelever. Den radikale reformen Battle Royale innføres: hvert år velges en tilfeldig skoleklasse ut, dopes ned og transporteres til en øde øy. Der utstyres de med eksplosive halslenker, matrasjoner og hvert sitt tilfeldige våpen. Deretter er oppgaven enkel: drep alle andre! Det er ingen regler. Alt er lov. Men det er bare én vinner - den som fremdeles står levende igjen til slutt. Og som en liten ekstra motivasjonsfaktor for å få blodtørsten på topp: er mer enn én fremdeles levende etter tre dager detoneres halslenkene, og alle dør.

Nå vil Star Wars-fansen selv få oppdage nøyaktig hvordan og hvorfor Anakin Skywalker - spådd å være Den utvalgte, det ene individet som vil være i stand til å skape balanse i Kraften og sikre fred gjennom hele galaksen - blir den fryktede Darth Vader, Keiserens høyre hånd. De vil også få vite hvordan Anakins mentorer, den sverdsvingende Obi-Wan Kenobi og den bittelille jedimesteren Yoda, klarer å overleve den sagnomsuste ødeleggelsen av Jedi-ordenen bare for å leve ut sine dager i skjul på fjerne, fiendtlige planeter. De vil få vite hva som vendte den tilsynelatende godhjertede og dypsindige kansler Palpatine til å bli den diktatoriske lederen av det fryktede galaktiske imperiet. De vil få vite hvordan Anakins barn, Luke Skywalker og Leia Organa, ble født og deretter skilt fra hverandre forutbestemt å lede det store opprøret mot Imperiet.

Special Agency NERV to nye EVA-piloter som skal hjelpe til med å forsvare byen Tokyo-3: den mystiske Makinami Mari Illustrous og den intense Asuka Langley Shikinami. I mellomtiden fortsetter Gendo Ikari og SEELE med et hemmelig prosjekt som involverer både Rei og Shinji. Filmen fikk tittelen "Evangelion: 2.22" for DVD / Blu-ray-utgivelsen.

Handlingen er satt i en fremtid der tidsreiser eksisterer, men er ulovlige og kun tilgjengelig på det svarte markedet. Når mafiaen ønsker å kvitte seg med noen sendes de 30 år inn i fortiden, der en "Looper" - en leid pistol, som Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) venter for å rydde opp. Joe blir rik av leiemordervirksomheten og livet er godt. Helt til dagen da mafiaen bestemmer seg for å avslutte ordningen og kvitte seg med alle bevis. Dette vil altså innbære å sende fremtidsversjonen av Joe (Bruce Willis) tilbake til fortiden og ta livet av ham. Det godtar selvsagt ikke Joe sånn helt uten videre..

The girls are less than enthusiastic about this idea, and only want to return home. Clef further explains that they must seek out the three Rune Gods to help them fight. He bestows armor and magical powers to each of them. They learn from Clef that High Priest Zagato has kidnapped the Pillar of Cephiro, Princess Emeraude. The Pillar of Cephiro has the sole responsibility of keeping Cephiro alive and in balance with her prayers. Without Princess Emeraude, Cephiro would fall into ruin. Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu must fight off Zagato's henchman and find the Rune Gods if they ever want to get back home. They soon learn that friendship and loyalty are the only things they can rely on in the crumbling Cephiro.
