Geïnspireerd door een kleine professionele volleyballer, creëert Shouyou Hinata een volleybalteam in zijn laatste jaar op de middelbare school. Helaas moet het team het opnemen tegen het team van 'King of the Court' Tobio Kageyama in hun eerste toernooi en onvermijdelijk verliezen. Na de verpletterende nederlaag zweert Hinata Kageyama te overtreffen. Nadat ze naar de middelbare school is gegaan, voegt Hinata zich bij het volleybalteam, maar ontdekt dat Tobio er ook bij is.
