Eddie en Venom worden gezochte vluchtelingen. Opgejaagd door hun beide werelden en met het net dat zich sluit, wordt het duo gedwongen tot een verwoestende beslissing die het lot van hun partnerschap en zelfs hun leven zal bepalen.
Het verhaal volgt een fotojournalist, Eddie Brock genaamd, die verbonden raakt met een symbiont, ofwel een buitenaardse levensvorm. Samen staan ze beter bekend onder de naam 'Venom'. Al snel groeit Eddie onder deze naam uit tot een antiheld die de onschuldigen probeert te beschermen.
Eddie Brock probeert zijn dagelijkse leven en carrière als journalist weer op te pakken. De symbiont daarentegen wil alleen maar de rol van dodelijke beschermer spelen; bad guys in elkaar slaan en zijn bodemloze honger stillen. Daarnaast heeft een sadistische moordenaar, Carnage genaamd, het op Eddie gemunt en lijkt een confrontatie onvermijdelijk.
