Pogingen om het verhaal aan het licht te brengen worden echter onderdrukt door de Japanse regering te midden van toenemende politieke spanningen tussen de Verenigde Staten en de Sovjet-Unie, die beiden bereid zijn Japan te bombarderen om het monster te stoppen.

Nadat een orkaan Tokio heeft getroffen, spoelt er een gigantisch ei aan. Het is een ei van het monster Mothra. Mothra stuurt zijn vrouwelijke dienaars naar Tokio om te vragen of ze het ei terug mogen nemen naar zijn oorspronkelijke plaats. Maar de op geld beluste investeerders weigeren.
