Een Amerikaanse stad ontwaakt bij de surrealistisch aanblik van buitenlandse parachutisten die uit de lucht vallen. De Verenigde Staten blijkt binnengevallen te zijn en hun stad het aanvankelijke doelwit. Al snel worden de burgers gevangen genomen en is de stad door vijandelijke troepen bezet. Vastbesloten om terug te vechten zoekt een groep jonge patriotten hun toevlucht in de omliggende bossen, waar ze zich reorganiseren tot een guerrilla groep. Geïnspireerd door hun middelbare school mascotte noemen ze zichzelf de Wolverines, met als doel om elkaar te beschermen, hun stad te bevrijden en hun vrijheid terug te nemen.

Het waargebeurde verhaal van de onafscheidelijke broers Von Erich, die begin jaren tachtig geschiedenis schreven in de intens competitieve wereld van het professionele worstelen. Na de kraak krijgen de broertjes veel meer dan zij ooit in hun stoutste dromen konden verwachten, de goedheid van de mensen valt als een zware deken op hun neer en zij krijgen spijt van hun daden. Het geld lijkt echter belangrijker voor hen.

De broers Jeff en Beau Bridges spelen samen als Jack en Frank Baker. Michelle Pfeifer is Susie Diamond, de vrouw die hun leven binnendringt en het onherroepelijk verandert. Een combinatie van romantiek, drama, muziek en humor.
