Tačiau tie įvykiai ir pačios įvairiausios sąmokslo teorijos dar buvo stebėtinai gyvos žmonių lūpose ir širdyse.Pats Niksonas po atsistatydinimo apie šiuos įvykius praktiškai nekalbėjo, tad jo sutikimas atskleisti tiesą interviu forma tapo kone sensacija. Tuo laiminguoju, kuriam teko užduotis „iškvosti" buvusį prezidentą, tapo britų televizijos žurnalistas Deividas Frostas (akt. Michaelas Sheenas). Numatant kilsiantį ažiotažą (vėliau paaiškėjo, kad šiuos interviu stebėjo apie 400 milijonų žmonių), iš anksto buvo susitarta dėl keleto pokalbių
