„Nuostabus gyvenimas“ pasakoja istoriją apie Džordžą Beilį (akt. Jamesas Stewartas), kuris Kalėdų išvakarėse atsiduria gyvenimo aklavietėje. Sunkiausiu jam momentu nusileidžia angelas, bandantis įtikinti Džordžą, jog dar ne viskas prarasta. Jis sugeba parodyti, kas atsitiks, jeigu Džordžas pasitrauks iš gyvenimo. Žiūrovams suteikiama galimybė stebėti pagrindinio herojaus gyvenimą jau žinant, kaip jis ketina pasielgti.
