Two of Popeye's nephews get caught playing with fireworks on the Fourth of July. Popeye takes them away, and they spend the rest of the picture trying to get them back (mostly by getting Popeye away from them).

We meet Abner propped upon a pillow in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. With an annoyingly twee voice emerging from his anthropomorphised face, Abner reveals the events leading up to his arrival in this hallowed hall. It seems that Abner is the baseball that got whacked by Mickey Mantle for a home run against the Detroit Tigers, on 10 September 1960 ... sailing for an astonishing 634 feet (193 metres).

Bluto muscles out Popeye to take Olive to the fair. Popeye rushes ahead and poses as a fortune teller, luring Olive in. He shows Olive her future (actually, her past) in the crystal ball.

Swifty is a salesman at a suit store where his job is on the line for being rude to the customers. He has one more chance to make things right. Shorty is looking for a new suit and attempts to get help from Swifty, but he gets the runaround.

Sergeant Snorkle is bothered by the lack of beauty at Camp Swampy, so he sends away for a Japanese leechee tree. While the tree is being planted, Sergeant Snorkle heads for a little R&R. Private Zero destroys the tree. Fearful of what their Sergeant might do to them for wrecking his tree, Beetle, Lieutenant Cosmo and Zero buy another Japanese Leechee tree from a local Japanese restaurant and plant that. The scheme falls apart when our heroes set their jeep in reverse and wreck the new tree.

Van Bellingham Cartwright Forbes arrives at Camp Swampy to take on the best men for the new psychological test. Beetle and Snorkle are picked to participate in a battle of wits with the champ, Sergeant Tortoise.

Beatnik mice are chased by a square cat.

Sergeant Snorkle's entire platoon prepares for war games with another base. During the battle, Beetle and Zero manage to louse up the games. They both get trapped inside of a tank, and, before long, win the war games for Camp Swampy.

Two mischievous penguins fool around with some Antarctic supplies.

Tommy Tortoise and Moe Hare have to get a picture of a missile launching or get fired.

A classical music concert can't go on while neighboring Luigi the village blacksmith works his noisy trade. Eventually, the problem is worked out.
