This story is based on an ancient northern legend according to which the souls of the drowned people turn into sea animals. The Hunter steals a seal-girl’s skin, so she can’t turn back into an animal. She becomes his wife, but often she glances at the sea.

According to the Sami belief, little people live underground - they are mischievous, fussy, but kind. One of the little men ends up on earth and remains to live with an old man and an old woman.
