秘密のパンダ村を訪れたポーとその父親。ポーはできそこないのパンダたちを寄せ集めて何とか軍隊を組み、中国全土を脅かす悪霊に立ち向かう。

国家の存亡がかかった戦を前に、各家庭の男子を兵士として差し出せとの命令が下り、息子のいないファ家の一人娘ムーラン(リウ・イーフェイ)は、病気がちな父親を守るため男に成り済まして戦地に行く。彼女はファ家の守り神である不死鳥に見守られ、驚異的な戦闘能力を開花させる。

1930年代の上海は、新興の暴力組織、斧頭会が牛耳っていた。猪籠城寨（豚小屋砦）と呼ばれる貧困者アパートにチンピラのシンとその相棒が斧頭会を名乗り恐喝に来た。住人を舐めていたが逆にボコボコにされ、苦し紛れに投げた爆竹で偶然通りかかった斧頭会幹部に怪我をさせてしまう。

In the Warring States Period of ancient China (475–221 BCE), Shin and Hyou are war-orphans in the kingdom of Qin. They dream of one day proving themselves on the battlefield.
