魔法と幻想の国・オズにあるシズ大学の学生として出会ったエルファバとグリンダ。緑色の肌をもち周囲から誤解されてしまうエルファバと、野心的で美しく人気者のグリンダは、寄宿舎で偶然ルームメイトになる。見た目も性格もまったく異なる2人は、最初こそ激しく衝突するが、次第に友情を深め、かけがえのない存在になっていく。しかしこの出会いが、やがてオズの国の運命を大きく変えることになる。

お祭りを2日後に控えたフランス西南部の海辺の街ロシュフォールに、作曲家の卵のソランジュ（フランソワーズ・ドルレアック）とダンサー志望の妹デルフィーヌ（カトリーヌ・ドヌーヴ）という双子姉妹が暮らしていた。お祭の当日、旅芸人のエチエンヌ（ジョージ・チャキリス）たちに頼まれ、彼女たちは歌と踊りを披露する。

工場勤務の明日香（正木佐和）は結婚を控えて満ち足りた日々を送っていたが、ある日学生時代に水死してしまった同級生の青木（梅澤嘉朗）が河童となって彼女のもとに出現する。青木は何かと明日香にくっ付いて回るが、死神（守屋文雄）の出現で明日香の死期が近いことが判明。何とかしたいと願う青木は河童の里へ向かうのだが……

Set in late-1920s Soviet Union, Ostap Bender and Ippolit "Kisa" Vorobyaninov are after a stash of diamonds hidden in one of the chairs in 12-chair set. They are forced to go on a cross-country chase when the chairs are auctioned off.
