Il 13 ottobre 1972 un aereo con a bordo una squadra di rugby uruguaiana precipitò sulle Ande. Molti passeggereri morirono subito, i restanti 16, in attesa di essere soccorsi, cercarono di sopravvivere arrivando addirittura a cibarsi della carne dei compagni morti. Tre di loro decisero di lasciare il campo nell'eroico tentativo di superare le montagne in cerca di aiuto...
