L'esilarante e commovente storia di un ex allenatore di basket di serie B che, dopo una serie di passi falsi, viene incaricato dal tribunale di gestire una squadra di giocatori con disabilità intellettive. Sul Pianeta dei Nerdlucks, il lunapark elettronico sta per fallire per mancanza di nuovi divertimenti. Alla ricerca di soluzioni per rimettere in sesto la situazione, Swackhammer, padrone del lunapark e capo dei Nerdlucks, invia un gruppo sulla Terra con il compito di rapire i Loony Tunes e carpire i segreti dei loro divertimenti. I Nerdlucks stanno per avere la meglio, quando Bugs Bunny ha un'idea: sfida gli avversari ad una partita di basket, se i Tunes vinceranno, potranno rimanere sulla Terra; se perderanno dovranno seguire i nemici sul loro Pianeta.

Una volta Jack Cunningham aveva una vita piena di promesse. Al liceo era un fenomeno della pallacanestro con in mano una borsa di studio universitaria, quando improvvisamente, per motivi sconosciuti, decise di allontanarsi dal mondo del basket, rinunciando al proprio brillante futuro. Anni più tardi, Jack si trova ad un passo dalla rovina, scatenata da una perdita inenarrabile, annegando nell’alcolismo. Quando gli viene offerta la possibilità di allenare la squadra di pallacanestro del suo vecchio liceo, lontana dagli anni gloriosi di un tempo, accetta con riluttanza, sorprendendo soltanto lui stesso. Quando i ragazzi iniziano a comportarsi da squadra e conseguentemente a vincere, Jack crede di aver finalmente trovato una ragione per cui combattere i demoni che lo hanno portato vicino alla rovina. Ma basterà questo a riempire i suoi vuoti, a curare le profonde ferite del suo passato e a condurlo sulla strada della redenzione?
Lo Shohoku ha appena perso la partita conto il Kainan e l'umore della squadra è abbastanza basso. Un'altro team, formato da diversi assi del basket, (compreso Okita studente che ha studiato per un anno negli stati uniti) il Ryokufo, ne approfitta per organizzare un'amichevole contro Hanamichi&Co.. Lo Shohoku non comincia bene, la sconfitta contro il Kainan si fa ancora sentire, ma successivamente, grazie all'incoraggiamento del capitano Akagi...
Un gruppo improbabile di non apprezzate donne di mezza età, tutte ex studentesse e campionesse dello stesso liceo del Texas, decide di formare una squadra di basket. Lo scopo è quello di sfidare le attuali arroganti studentesse del liceo, campionesse di stato, in una partita utile a raccogliere fondi per la prevenzione del cancro al seno. Con esiti al di là di ogni più rosea aspettativa, il successo della squadra finirà per attirare l'attenzione dei media nazionali e far acquisire una nuova prospettiva di vita alle sue componenti.
Dunque la storia si svolge all'incirca nel periodo della prima amichevole con il Ryonan quindi ancora Mitsui e Miyagi non sono nella squadra.. al loro posto giocano Kogure e Yasuda...lo Shohoku va a fare una partita con la Takezono Gakuen High school e li` Sakuragi incontrera` Yoko...ovvero la cinquantesima ragazza che lo aveva scaricato alle medie... e che lo aveva scaricato per un giocatore di basket Tatsumasa Oda che gioca appunto nel Takezono e che frequentava le stesse medie di Hana, le Wako... Quindi un motivo in piu` per il Rossino di farselo nemico! Il ragazzo pero` e` ossessionato dall'idea di partecipare al campionato nazionale e a causa di questo rischia anche di rovinare il suo rapporto con Yoko... d'altro canto Hanamichi vuole dimostrargli di non essere piu` un teppista ma un vero giocatore di basket! Comunque tutto finira` bene....
