Sonic, Knuckles, dan Tails bersatu kembali melawan musuh baru yang kuat, Shadow, penjahat misterius dengan kekuatan yang belum pernah mereka hadapi sebelumnya. Alur cerita film Sonic the Hedgehog 2 bermula ketika Sonic menetap di Green Hills. Ia memutuskan menetap di sana agar bisa merasakan lebih banyak kebebasan. Usually, Orange tries to "warn" them before it happens, blurting out the weapon-in-use, such as "Knife!".
