Godine 1856. Engleska i Francuska ratovale su na Krimu protiv Rusije. Engleske trupe primale su plaću u zlatu. Dvadeset i pet tisuća funti u zlatnim polugama putovalo je jednom mjesečno vlakom iz Londona do obale. Zlato je bilo smješteno u okovane sandučiće, a oni u dva sefa koji su se zaključavali s po dva ključa. Dva ključa čuvao je u uredu šef postaje, treći ključ imao je Edgar Trent (A.
