Scharnhorst, who said that the army should march at the forefront of progress, is one of the NVA's role models. The film uses historical material to cover the years 1806 to 1813, the Battle of Jena and Auerstädt and the Battle of Leipzig.

In the spring of 1965, Polish citizen Sheybal visits the town of Genthin. He knows his way around the sugar factory. He had to work there as a prisoner of war during the Second World War. He suffered a life-threatening accident. Now he is looking for the people or their relatives who helped him.

The East German Navy's newest submarine hunter is presented. Also, a historical excursus about older anti-submarine ships and the hunt for enemy submarines is shown.

In order to meet the commissioning deadline of the VEB Erdölverarbeitungswerk Schwedt on April 1, 1964, around 450 NVA pioneers support the work to complete the start-up stage over the Easter holidays. The ceremonial commissioning takes place punctually on April 1 in the presence of Minister Erich Pasold.

The 5th anniversary of the inner-German wall to West Germany and West Berlin is on the agenda.
