סיפורן של שלוש בנות בשנת 1980 בסטוקהולם המחליטות להקים להקת פאנק חרף אמירות הציבור כולו שמוזיקת פאנק מתה ולמרות שלא היו להן את כלי המוזיקה המתאימים.

דרמה מוזיקלית עם קריסטן סטיוארט ("דמדומים") בדמותה של ג'ואן ג'ט, זמרת הרוק המפורסמת. סיפורה של להקת בנות ששברה מוסכמות בשנות ה- 70' והוכיחה לעולם שרוקנרול בועט הוא לא תחום לגברים בלבד. מלהקה זו יצאה ג'ואן ג'ט, שמאוחר יותר התפרסמה עם הרכב משלה בשם ג'ואן ג'ט והלבבות השחורים, שהביא לעולם את אחד מהמנוני הרוק הגדולים של כל הזמנים: "אני אוהבת רוקנרול".

Since she was very young, Kasumi Toyama has always been searching for the "Star Beat", a sparkling and exciting sound she heard while looking up at the night sky. Just after getting into high school, Kasumi comes across a "star-shaped guitar" in the storage area of an old pawn shop. Feeling a rush and excitement she has never felt before, Kasumi teams up with four other girls and embarks on a journey to seek out the shiny place. We promise to perform a live here!

Nina Iseri drops out of high school and moves to Tokyo by herself. In front of the station in the suburbs of Tokyo, Nina sees Momo Kawaragi singing alone and is touched by the power of music. Nina decides to form a band with Subaru Awasu, a girl who hides her true feelings, Tomo Ebutsuka, who was abandoned by her parents, and Rupa, a lonely girl without any family...

Maigahara Music College Affiliate School Maigahara Senior High (abbreviated as MaiMai). At this academy that gathers the most promising musical talents, there's a rumor circulating among students. "If you give an amazing performance at the school festival, you get special extra credit (or so they say)." Serina's grades are not very good, so she immediately believes the rumor and decides to form a band! Rehearsals, sleepovers... even cosplay? Everything they can imagine will become part of their colorful daily life. But will they really be able to give an amazing performance and get the rumored credit!? The curtain rises on the story of the daily, funny lives of these girls!
