PASKAL (Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Pasukan Khas Laut) perustettiin 1982 Malesian kunikaallisen laivaston erikoisosastoksi, jonka tehtävin kuuluu mm sissisodankäynti, vastarintataistelua, terrorismin torjuntaa, panttivankien pelastaminen ja muita erikoistehtäviä. Elokuva perustuu PASKAL:in luutnanttikomentaja Arman Anwarin ja hänen tiiminsä todellisiin tehtäviin YK:n rauhanturvaoperaation aikana Angolassa vuonna 1998 ja kaapatun MV Bunga Laurelin kauppa-aluksen onnistuneesta pelastamisesta vuonna 2011.
