Film põhineb gangster Henry Hilli elul ja näitab tema teed New Yorki tänavatelt kuni anonüümse eksiilini tunnistajakaitseprogrammis. Nooruke Henry Hill elab linnaosas koos iiri või itaalia päritolu inimestega. Seal kohtub ta halastamatu gangsteri Jimmy Conway ja tulipäise Tommy DeVitoga.
