Harry Potter on pealtnäha täiesti tavaline, pisut tagasihoidlik poiss, kes peale ema ja isa traagilist surma on sattunud elama oma tädi juurde. 10 aastat on ta pidanud taluma tädi Petunia, onu Vernoni ja nende poja Dudley terroriseerimist. Ühel päeval aga hakkavad saabuma salapärased kirjad ning ilmub välja hiiglasekasvu, kuid sõbralik Hagrid, kes Harryle räägib, et ta polegi tavaline poiss, vaid hoopis võlur. Nii asubki Harry õppima Sigatüüka kooli, kus ta õpib võlukunsti erinevaid vorme, leiab endale sõbrad Ron'i ja Hermione'i ning peab vastu astuma igasugustele ohtudele.

Harry Potter on suvevaheajal, kui tema juurde ilmub majahaldjas Dobby, kes hoiatab teda, et ta sel aastal tagasi Sigatüüka kooli ei läheks. Hoiatusest hoolimata otsustab Harry tagasi minna ning koos oma sõprade Ron'i ja Hermione'ga ohtudele vastu astuda. Harry peab toime tulema oma vaenlase Draco Malfoy alatute trikkidega ning avastama, mis on koolis toimuvate salapäraste rünnakute taga.

Weasly perekond kutsub Harry veetma suvepuhkuse viimast kahte nädalat nendega enne, kui nad Hogwartsi nõiakooli enda neljandale õppeaastale lähevad. Külastades lendluupalli Maailmakarika finaalmängu satuvad nad peale aga kurja Lord Voldemorti rünnakule. Ta ei peatu enne kui on suutnud enda jõu taastada. Neljandal aastal Hogwartsis osaleb Harry kolme kooli vahel peetavad raskes ning ohtlikus nõiamängus, mille osalejad valib välja tulepeeker. Kuid tavapärase kolme osavõtja asemele loosib tulepeeker sel aastal välja hoopis neli võistlejat…

Oma kolmandal aastal Sigatüüka Nõiduse ja Võlukunsti Koolis tuleb Harryl, Hermione'l ja Ronil vastu astuda võlurite vanglast pagenud vangile, Sirius Blackile. Sirius Black pandi 12 aastat tagasi Azkabani kui Lord Voldemorti parem käsi. Nüüd arvatakse, et Black kavatseb Harry Sigatüükas kätte saada ja ta tappa. Nagu sellest ohust veel vähe oleks, pannakse kooli valvama tontlikud dementorid, kes suudavad inimesest kõik rõõmsad tunded välja imeda.

Harry Potter naaseb Sigatüüka kooli, viiendasse klassi. Endale suureks üllatuseks, ei usu aga võlurite koolkond Lord Voldemordi ülestõusu. Harryl ei jää seega üle muud, kui koguda enda ümber salk noori võlureid ja hakata neid ise välja treenima, kaitseks mustade jõudude vastu.

Harry, Ron ja Hermione püüavad lahendada Voldemorti surematuse saladuse, et leida viis ta hävitamiseks. Omapead, ilma oma professorite nõuanneteta ning Dumbledore'i kaitseta, peavad kolm sõpra lootma üksteise peale rohkem kui kunagi varem. Ent nende ümber liiguvad juba pimeduse jõud, mis ähvardavad neid lahku kiskuda.

Tõsieluline “Kurja kutsumine” jutustab loo paranormaalsete juhtumite uurijatest Ed ja Lorraine Warrenist, kes lähevad appi üksildases farmis elavale ja mustade jõudude küüsis vaevlevale perele. Kui Harry hakkab järjest rohkem kiinduma Ginny'sse, siis Ron'il on humoorikas suhe Lavender Brown'iga, mis ei meeldi eriti Hermionele, kes surub oma tunded alla.
