Takashi Natsume continúa devolviendo los nombres de los espíritus que se han escrito en el "Libro de los Amigos" que heredó de su abuela, Reiko Natsume. Mientras navega entre humanos y youkai con su amigo, mascota y guardaespaldas Nyanko-sensei, Natsume se reúne casualmente con un viejo compañero de clase, Daisuke Yuuki. Este reecuentro le trae recuerdos dolorosos de un youkai de su pasado. Mientras tanto, Natsume también se familiariza con Yorie Tsumura, una mujer que conocía a Reiko y que estaba en los recuerdos de un youkai cuyo nombre había regresado. Yorie ahora vive una vida pacífica con su único hijo, Mukuo. Pasar tiempo con esta familia consuela a Natsume, pero un misterioso youkai ha estado al acecho en su ciudad. En el camino de regreso de la investigación con Natsume, Nyanko-sensei termina metiéndose en problemas de los que solo Natsume y sus amigos, ya sean youkai o humanos, pueden ayudarlo a salir.

Despues de 50 años reaparece la Isla Hourai, una legendaria isla donde convivian demonios y humanos en completa armonia. La Isla ahora tiene encerrados a un grupo de medio demonios que tienen que ofrecer sus vidas a los cuatro dioses que tambien estan encerrados en la isla, sin embargo una de ellos logra escapar encontrando a InuYasha y a sus amigos, pididiendole que rescate a sus hermanos. Sesshomaru tambien decide ir a enfrentarlos ya que al igual que InuYasha fueron marcados con la marca de los cuatro dioses hace 50 años, Sin embargo InuYasha y su grupo tendra una dura batalla al saber que no solo se enfrentara a los Cuatro Dioses sino tambien a un clon de Kikyou, que se formó de su sangre hace 50 años.

La película comienza cuando nuestro grupo de aventureros logra derrotar a Naraku. Es entonces cuando Kagura y Kanna (las sirvientes de Naraku) al sentir la muerte de su amo deciden invocar a Kaguya la Princesa de los Cielos para que les muestre la verdadera libertad, pero para eso necesitan una serie de objetos que la liberen del espejo donde se encuentra.

Tras la muerte de su padre, Momo se muda con su madre a una remota isla. Mientras lucha con la incertidumbre de una carta inacabada de su padre, descubre un viejo libro en el ático, desencadenando eventos inesperados.

La historia comienza en el momento en que el joven Keita Amano se encuentra con una pequeña cápsula en el bosque para después recibir un misterioso reloj. Así es como conoce a un fantasma que se hace llamar Whisper. Este le comenta al chico que el reloj que lleva en su muñeca le ayudará a ver todo tipo de criaturas sobrenaturales, tanto buenas como malas. A partir de ese instante, Keita vivirá una gran aventura. Tendrá que viajar 60 años atrás en el tiempo para conocer a su propio abuelo de joven, y entre los dos tratar de salvar a la humanidad.

La película está compuesta por dos historias: “Ishi Okoshi” y “Ayashiki Raihousha”. En “Ishi Okoshi”, Natsume se encuentra con un pequeño youkai llamado Mitsumi en un bosque. Mitsumi tiene como deber despertar al divino youkai “Iwatetsu” de su profundo sueño, cosa a la que accede ayudar Natsume. En “Ayashiki Raihousha”, un visitante misterioso aparece frente a Tanuma. Casi todos los días, visita a Tanuma, le habla un poco y luego se va. Natsume, que sabe que el visitante es un youkai, se preocupa por Tanuma, pero Tanuma disfruta de estas charlas con la entidad. El youkai no quiere hacerle daño, pero la salud de Tanuma comienza a deteriorarse lentamente.

Durante las celebraciones populares, el joven de diez años Tadashi es elegido “Jinete Kirin”, defensor de la justicia y la paz. La leyenda cuenta que el Jinete kirin debe ir a una montaña cercana y reclamar una legendaria espada, guardada por el gran Goblin para así luchar contra el malvado ejército de Yomotsumono.
