Ο Ντάνι Μακάμπι, ένας πλαστικός χειρουργός που θέλει να φλερτάρει ελεύθερα χωρίς δεσμεύσεις, χρησιμοποιεί ένα αθώο ψέμα για να πετύχει το στόχο του: φοράει βέρα κι ας είναι ανύπαντρος. Αλλά αντί να παραδεχτεί την αλήθεια όσο το δυνατόν πιο γρήγορα, αποφασίζει να «εφεύρει» μια σύζυγο με την οποία υποτίθεται ότι σύντομα θα χωρίσει για χάρη της Πάλμερ. Το ρόλο της δήθεν συζύγου αναλαμβάνει η επί χρόνια βοηθός του Ντάνι, Κάθριν, μητέρα δύο παιδιών, τα οποία σύντομα αναγκάζονται να μπουν επίσης στο παιχνίδι. Έτσι καταλήγουν όλοι για ένα τρελό σαββατοκύριακο στη Χαβάη, που θα αλλάξει τη ζωή τους για πάντα.
