Ku Klux Klan hærger, og sorte lever i skræk og rædsel. Så meget desto mere fantastisk - og modigt - er det da også, da Aibileen, en sort tjenestepige, indvilger i at fortælle sin historie til miss Skeeter. Skeeter er en ung hvid kvinde, der aldrig har forstået, hvorfor hendes egen elskede ’mammy’ forsvandt ud af hendes liv, og som har sat sig for at beskrive tilværelsen of en række sorte tjenestepiger. Aibileen er den første. Men det er ikke nok med kun én stemme. Langsomt, møjsommeligt og i dybeste hemmelighed lykkes det i 'Niceville' at rekruttere andre kvinder og få dem til at fortælle deres historie - med livet som indsats. 'Niceville' er baseret på romanen 'The Help' af Kathryn Stockett.
