Alkoholik Brick býval dříve profesionálním hráčem fotbalu. Dnes utápí své dny v alkoholu a odmítá lásku i pomoc své ženy Maggie. V den otcových narozenin dojde mezi ním a jeho bratrem k roztržce. Pak ale vyjde najevo, že jejich otec je vážně nemocný a umírá na rakovinu.
