John Rambo, antic boina verda, visitarà un antic company d'armes i rep la notícia que aquest ha mort com a conseqüència dels efectes de la guerra. Al cap de pocs dies, la policia deté Rambo per rodamón i s'acarnissa amb ell. Aleshores recorda les tortures que va patir al Vietnam i reacciona violentament.
