Novi projekt uspješnog redateljskog dvojca smješten je u Hollywood ’50-ih godina, a priča prati Eddieja Mannixa (Josh Brolin) – zaštitnika ugleda glumačkih zvijezda koje su vladale Hollywoodom 50-ih godina. Glavni lik Eddie Mannix je navodno inspiriran stvarnom osobom, potpredsjednikom tvrtke MGM. U vrijeme u koje je radnja smještena holivudske producentske kuće i filmski studiji štitili su ugled svojih glavnih glumačkih zvijezda od raznoraznih skandala ne prezajući od nelegalnih metoda. Metode su uključivale zapošljavanje specijalnih pojedinaca koji bi “sređivali probleme” velikim novčanim isplatama, prijetnjama ili nasiljem.
