يعاني سكان مدينة سبرينجفيلد من التلوث البيئي في بحيرة المدينة، ويصدر عمدة المدينة أمر بمنع رمي النفايات فيها، لكن (هومر سمبسون) يلقى بفضلات خنزيره في البحيرة، ويحصل تفاعل كيماوي خطير وتصبح مستنقع، وتقنع مؤسسة حماية البيئة الرئيس بمعاقبة أهل المدينة عن طريق حجز المدينة تحت قبة زجاجية ضخمة.
