بعد أن عانت من كابوس عنيف متكرر، تعود طالبة الجامعة ستيفاني إلى منزلها لتعقب الشخص الوحيد الذي قد يكون قادرًا على كسر هذه الدائرة وإنقاذ عائلتها من الموت المروع الذي ينتظرهم جميعًا حتمًا.

تدور أحداث الفيلم حول زوجين سعيدين يتعرضان لحادث سيارة قاتل وينجوان منه ويعودان إلى منزلهما، ويكتشفان أنهما شبحان، وبعد فترة يُباع منزلهما ويقرران إخافة الملاك الجدد من دون جدوى، فيقرران استقدام شبح أقوى يعمل كطارد للبشر، إلا أن هذا الشبح يكون له أهداف أخرى غير التي استقدم لها.

في هذا الجزء يعود الموت مرة أخرى، ليختار ضحايا جددًا؛ حيث ينطلق في مهمته المعتادة بعد قيام أحد الرجال بتنبيه أصدقائه السبعة بضرورة أن يغادروا بسرعة، قبل انهيار الجسر الذي يمرون عليه في أثناء استقلالهم أحد الأتوبيسات، إثر هاجس كان يلح عليه، ولكن ينطلق السباق ضد الزمن لكي يحاول الأصدقاء اكتشاف طريقة ما للهروب من المخطط الذي يعده لهم الموت.

في أعقاب وفاة زوجها، تواجه الأرملة (رامونا) صعوبة في تربية طفليها بسبب وصول امرأة غامضة تمتلك قدرات خارقة للطبيعة.

تعترض كيمبرلي الطريق بعد هاجس عنيف بالتصادم على الطريق السريع، وحفظ حياة البعض من الموت، وحتى تكون آمنة... فهل هي كذلك؟ لكن الباقين على قيد الحياة يموت واحداً تلو الآخر في ظروف غامضة والأمر متروك لكيمبرلي لوقفه قبل أن يأتي دورها.
