ين تعيش سندريلا مع والديها إلى أن توفيت والدتها. عاشت سندريلا مع والدها الذي لطالما أحبها كثيرا وأحبته هي الأخري، ذات يوم أراد الأب أن يشعر ابنته بوجود أما تشعرها بالحنان فقرر الزواج من إمرأة من عائلة كبيرة ولديها ابنتان من نفس عمر سندريلا، في البداية كانت تعامل سندريلا بلطف، حتى توفى والدها، وظهرت زوجة الاب على حقيقتها القاسية، حيث بدأت تعامل سندريلا كأنها خادمة لها وﻹبنتيها. سندريلا المسكينة عانت مرارة فقدان والدها والمعاملة القاسية التي تعرضت لها ، إلا إنها لم يعد يتبقا لها أحد إلا بعض العصافير والفئران الذين أصبحوا اصدقائها فيساعدونها باعمال البيت والتنظيف.

تدور أحداث الفيلم حول لعبة خشبية اسمها بنوكيو، التي قام بصنعها صانع الألعاب جيبيتو، الذي يتمنى أن تدب الحياة في بنوكيو، حيث يتم تحقيق هذه الأمنية من قبل جنية زرقاء جميلة وعندها تبدأ المغامرة.

تبدأ القصة بداية طبيعية، تلقي الساحرة الشريرة باللعنة، ويتم تخفيفها من قبل الجنية الثالثة. يقرر بعدها الملك والملكة التخلص من كل المغازل في المملكة وتنصحهما الجنيات بأن يخفيان الأميرة حتى عيد ميلادها السادس عشر في الغابة، دون أن يعرف عنها أحد حتى والداها أو هي نفسها. و بالفعل يتم تخبأة الأميرة شفق في الغابة، بحيث تصبح الفتاة الفقيرة ورد التي تربيها ثلاث عجائز في كوخ بسيط في الغابة. هذه العجائز هن الجنيات بعد أن تعهدن بعدم استخدام السحر أبدا كي لا يكشفوا التنكر.

تتمتع ماليفسنت، وهي امرأة شابة جميلة وذات قلب نقي، بحياة مثالية نشأت في مملكة غابات مسالمة، حتى يومًا ما يهدد فيه جيش غازي وئام المملكة.
