يرصد الفيلم قصة أب يُدعى جون كيو (دينزل واشنطون)، يعاني جون من ندرة في المال وسوء حالة ابنه الصحية، حيث أنه يريد نقل قلب جديد، ولكن تأمين جون الصحي لا يغطي مصاريف العملية لابنه. في غمضة عين يجد جون كيو نفسه يختطف المستشفى ويتخذ من بها رهائن حتى علاج ابنه وإنقاذ حياته.
